![]() Keeping our commitment If you have questions regarding the California Democratic Party's commitment to the environment, then the Environmental Caucus is the place to find answers to your questions. The Environmental Caucus is an interface between the Party and those concerned about the environment. We define our commitment by passing and submitting environmental resolutions to the Party. We hold Democratic candidates and elected officials accountable, by asking them to explain their voting record on the environment and by urging them to support our Party’s environmental positions. If you have ideas on how the Party’s environmental positions can be improved upon, then the Environmental Caucus is the place to have that conversation. Everyone is welcome to share their concerns and knowledge on the environment at our meetings or by email at EnviroCaucus@gmail.com. Understanding the role of caucuses within the California Democratic Party is key to understanding the Environmental Caucus. Unlike other chartered Democratic organizations, caucuses are actually part of the California Democratic Party. As such, our actions directly affect the Party both financially and legally. The Party has put limitations on caucuses to prevent them from adversely affecting the Party’s activities. Caucuses can only spend funds for meeting expenses, and caucuses cannot endorse candidates or legislation outside the Party’s endorsements. Caucuses are also charged with promoting the Party within our demographic. That means reaching out to the environmental community and involving them with Party efforts. Unlike other environmental groups, our mission is to elect Democrats that our committed to the environment. The goal of winning elections is different from the pure ideological focus of issue based organizations. This mission requires us to focus on achievable objectives that are possible now. No matter how sobering elections are, the Environmental Caucus is filled with people passionate about the environment. I hope you will join us in our effort to put the environment at the front of the political dialogue. |
